Abstract

Ghulam Bagh is the first novel of the great fiction writer Mirza Athar Baig. It is generally considered the most popular novel of Urdu fiction in 21^st century. The novelist has deviated from the use of standard Urdu language in this novel. Deviation is the violation of the rules or norms of a language. He has made his language creative and inventive as he used the language different from the conventional and everyday language of his era . Using unconventional language he has given his readers unexpected surprise and made a strong impression on their minds. Thus the deviation is seen as an effective means to enrich the text in which it occurs. Ghulam Bagh is abundant with many kinds of linguistics deviations .They have been explored throughout this paper according to the various levels of linguistic analysis: semantic level, syntactic level, lexical level , graphological level. Beside this the novelist deviated from the use of standard language. He has used slangs that are considered vulgar and abusive language. He as a creative writer enjoyed unique freedom in use of language without respecting the social contexts to which he belongs.
