Abstract
The theory of identity narrative is very popular in Europe and is continuously being worked on in different aspects. An important name among the thinkers presented by this theory is Dan p. McAdams who presented the identity narrative theory in his book Handbook of Identity Theory and Research. The fourth chapter of this book deals entirely with identity narrative In which he says that narrative identity is actually the process of internal and external evolution of man through which man considers himself capable of maintaining his current identity which he himself has created or his ancestors. The recognition given by is sufficient for this. The theory of identity narrative not only states that man is constantly going through the process of his identity, he wants to go to his origin, but also that man is in search of his defined identity in society. Feminism discourse is the major component of this identity narrative where women are constantly engaged in the process of identifying themselves. Around the 1980s, many thinkers began to propose the identity narrative. This narrative found its way into fiction as well as mainstream writing, and postmodern novels began to create characters who were searching for their own identity. On the one hand, there are those characters who go through the process of their family identity, on the other hand, there are those characters who want to identify their existence in the society. This issue of humanitarian identity is also found in post-modern Urdu novels. This paper studies the process of searching for human identity in four postmodern novels.
