A number of research projects have been started mostly in Germany that have multiple objectives with regard to studying the history of Qur’anic text. Coranica, one of the two main projects, aims at tracking the historical development of the canonization of the Qur’anic text through study of material evidence like early Arabic correspondence, legal contracts and amulets on the one hand and analyzing the linguistic and religious milieu of the Qur’anic revelations and its impact on the Qur’anic lexicon on the other. The objective of Corpus Coranicum, the other main project, is to compile the material evidence for the history of Qur’anic text like oldest extant manuscripts, Texts from the environment of the Quran and variant readings into a database that would serve as the Critical Edition of Quran. Other minor projects like Amari, Paleocoran and IranCoran are meant to supplement the two main projects particularly Corpus Coranicum through easing up access to oldest Qur’anic manuscripts and their paleographic study. Modern scientific tools like Radiocarbon dating are also employed by these projects to determine the age of old manuscripts. This article discusses the history, motives, methodology, and organizational frame work of contemporary German projects on Qur’anic text. This study will acquaint and provide an academic foundation to the scholars regarding Western academic contributions and critiques on textual studies of Quran.
2025-10-21T08:31:13+05:00 Muhammad Attique Mattique5@gmail.com Manzoor Ahmad drmanzoor67@yahoo.com
: Fifth Generation Warfare (5GW), characterized by information manipulation, cyberattacks, and social engineering, presents a complex challenge in the contemporary world. This paper explores the permissibility and ethical considerations of employing 5GW tactics from an Islamic perspective. Drawing upon the Quran and Sunnah, the paper examines the core principles of self-defense and protection of the Muslim community. It analyzes verses advocating for strategic action against aggressors and the Prophet's (ﷺ) use of tactics that could be interpreted as precursors to 5GW methods. However, the paper acknowledges the potential for manipulation and civilian harm within 5GW. It delves into Quranic verses and hadiths emphasizing justice, truthfulness, and the avoidance of innocent bloodshed. The paper proposes a framework for ethical 5GW conduct, emphasizing targeted operations, minimizing civilian casualties, and adhering to international law where applicable. This analysis aims to contribute to a nuanced discussion on 5GW in the Islamic context. It argues that while 5GW tactics can be permissible for self-defense under certain conditions, they must be employed with strict adherence to Islamic ethical principles.
2025-10-21T08:30:31+05:00 Muhammad Usman Younas usmanyounas3450@gmail.com Muhammad Asghar Shahzad asghar.shahzad@iiu.edu.pk
Islamic banks are increasingly developing products that cater to modern financial needs while upholding Islamic principles. The Faysal Islami Noor Card, Pakistan’s second Sharīʿah-compliant alternative to conventional credit cards, marks a significant milestone in this endeavor. This paper presents a comprehensive Sharīʿah analysis of conventional credit cards and the Faysal Islami Noor Card. The study is structured in two parts: the first part examines Sharīʿah guidelines on conventional credit cards, drawing from the proceedings, standards, and Fatwas of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), and renowned Darul Ifat. The second part evaluates the Faysal Islami Noor Card in light of Sharīʿah principles. Using qualitative methods and content analysis technique, the researchs provide a detailed understanding of the card's compliance and practical implications. The paper concludes that the use of conventional credit cards is impermissible in Sharīʿah, while the Faysal Islami Noor Card, based on tawarruq, offers a permissible alternative. However, it emphasizes that tawarruq, according to fiqh literature, is not a mode of finance but a Makhrij (a legal stratagem), and suggests several improvements to enhance the Sharīʿah compliance of the Faysal Islami Noor Card.
2025-10-21T08:30:11+05:00 Hasnain Khalid hasnainkhalid.bs7164@iiu.edu.pk
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan is a religious scholar from the 20th century who, after initially coming into consciousness under the intellectual influence of Maulana Maududi, eventually chose a different path from him. He remained a critic of Maulana Maududi's thoughts from that time until his death. During this period, Maulana Khan also compiled a considerable amount of religious literature. After parting ways with Maulana Maududi, Khan joined the "Tablighi Jamaat" for a while before separating from them too. He then spent a short time with Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi and soon withdrew from there as well. Afterwards, he devoted the rest of his life to serving the religion on an individual basis. However, while serving the religion, Maulana Khan drew a line over almost all contemporary scholars and leaders of various schools of thought, except for a few, essentially declaring himself as the authority. It wouldn't be wrong to say that except for Ghulam Ahmed Perwez, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, and Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, he subjected all other contemporaries to criticism and ridicule. this study reviews the critical arrows Maulana Khan has shot at contemporary and some past scholars in paving the way for his interpretation of religion. The critique in this study is focused on thoughts rather than individuals.
2025-10-21T08:31:33+05:00 Uzma Aziz Khan uzmaazizkhan41@gmail.com
NawwabEmadulMulkGhaziuddin Khan Nizam, had a very important role in the political and literary history of the subcontinent.
