Developing Modern Methods for Teaching the Sīrah of the Prophet (peace be on him) in Diverse Educational Contexts

This study examines the pedagogical imperative of teaching Sīrat al-Nabī (peace be on him) through contemporary educational methodologies, arguing that an effective transmission of prophetic guidance requires harmonizing classical Islamic pedagogy with modern learning sciences. Drawing upon Qur’ānic foundations of human learning and Prophetic practice, the article contextualizes the centrality of the Prophet’s (peace be on him) life as the interpretive key to Islamic belief, law, ethics, and social conduct. It surveys traditional instructional models and contrasts them with current approaches—project-based learning, problem-based learning, discussion-based pedagogy, digital and technology-enhanced learning, game-based learning, story-telling, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. The research demonstrates that these methods, when employed within the ethical limits of Islamic tradition, can enhance learners’ engagement and comprehension of the Prophet’s (peace be on him) multifaceted exemplary life. Special attention is given to curriculum reform, integration of sīrah across educational tiers, and the pedagogical potential of digital platforms and community-based initiatives such as al-Burhān Sīrah Circles. The article concludes that updating sīrah education to meet contemporary cognitive and technological realities is essential for cultivating morally grounded individuals capable of addressing modern challenges, provided that reverence for prophetic dignity and the ethical constraints of Islamic law remain paramount.
