A Study of Life and Works of Allama Muhammad bin Tahir Patani with Special Focus on his Works on Fabricated Hadith
Abstract
In the religious, social and cultural life of Muslim ummah, Hadith acquires authoritative position that is only second to the Qur’┐n. Just as the Qur’┐nic evelation was preserved and compiled by the ummah, ╓┐diths of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) were also preserved and collected. The contribution made by the scholars of ╓┐dith in this regard has been materialized in the form of Sciences of ╓┐dith (‘Ul┴m al-╓┐dith). One of the considerable tasks done by the scholars of ╓┐dith is identification of fabricated (Maw╔┴‘) ╓┐diths. One such scholar who has written extensively on fabricated ╓┐diths is All┐m┐ Mu╒ammad bin ║┐hir Patani. All┐m┐ Patani was a prominent scholar of ╓┐dith from subcontinent. Apart from highlighting different aspects of life and works of All┐m┐ Mu╒ammad bin ║┐hir Patani, this article focuses on bringing forth his contributions in the field of fabricated ╓┐diths.
