Abstract

The Qur’an is regarded as the source of Islamic sciences and thought. Muslims not only have taken great pains to understand and interpret the text of the Qur’an, but also used it in a variety of fields, including poetry. The poets of the Indian subcontinent have played a dynamic role in this context. One such example is Maulana Zafar ‘Ali Khan (d. 1956). He was a prominent journalist and activist of the undivided India. He used his poetry for the promotion of Muslim causes. One of the key features of his poetry was the frequent use of Qur’anic allusions (talmihat). In this article, an effort has been made to study this feature of his poetry in his first collection of poems, Baharistan.
