Abstract

ABSTRACT

“We are all Greeks. Our laws, our literature, our religion, our arts, have their root in Greece” states Percy Bysshe Shelley in one of his poems. From philosophy to various practical sciences, the world definitely much owes to the Greeks. This is especially true for Western civilization, as the contributions of the Greeks to the fields of philosophy, science, literature, art, architechture, politics, etc., arguably form the cornerstone on which it was built. In fact, Greece is often called “the cradle of Western civilisation.” Along with their contributions to politics, ethics, metaphysics, literature, etc., Greek philosophers played an important role in the development of economic thought in human history. This article endeavors to collect the economic teachings scattered in the works of various Greek philosophers and puts them in one place.
