Abstract

Mahmood Ahmad Ghazi was one of the scholars who had a strong command over traditional Islamic sciences and was aware of contemporary philosophical and psychological trends. He combined traditional and modern scholarship. He significantly contributed to rearranging and reconstructing different walks of life like education and research, culture and civilization, philosophy and logic, economy and society, state and politics, and law and justice. In his lectures and research papers, he stressed the need to change the curriculum and educational system of religious seminaries to make them more efficient and fulfil the needs of the time. He also guided the heads of these institutions regarding their queries about different educational matters. He tried his utmost to develop a comprehensive and balanced religious and Islamic educational system in Pakistan. Ghazi wanted the students of religious seminaries to show their philosophical abilities and be ready to face the challenges of the modern world in a sound and balanced way. He believed that it was the duty of the religious elites to make students aware of the needs of modern times and prepare them to face these challenges. The modern world compels Muslims to rise above the bounds of local and regional needs and pay attention to global challenges. This article presents a research-based study on the different aspects of the curriculum and educational system of religious seminaries in the light of scholarly endeavours of Ghazi.
