A Review of Jonathan Brown's Study of Hadith
Abstract
Many non-Muslim Western scholars have conducted scholarly research on Hadith and have authored numerous books. However, the notable difference between their work and that of Dr. Jonathan A.C. Brown is that Brown refutes longstanding doubts and misconceptions of Western culture. He works on the scientific foundations related to Hadith, to the extent that he stands out among contemporary Western scholars as one of the foremost defenders of Hadith. The focus of this article is to highlight the notable characteristics of his research methodology particularly in the study of Hadith. Dr. Jonathan Brown has made significant contributions in the Western world to the field of Hadith. He critically examines various theories put forward by Orientalists regarding Hadith and meticulously conducts his research, encompassing a wealth of information, covering all aspects of his subjects, and deriving logical conclusions in an organized manner.
