Abstract

The basic aim in Qur‚ānic thoughts of orientalists is to prove the changes in Qur‚ān by human beings. For the achievement of this mission, the group of orientalists tried with their best effort to prove their claim by different Shāẓ Readings from Qur‚ān. Arthur Jeffery; an American orientilest, played a pivotal role with raising doubt in the text of Qur‚ān. He presented differences in readings of Qur‚ān with the help of Islamic books related to said topic. He explored collectively different readings of Qur‚ān with his book having name "Materials for the History of the text of the Qur‚ān", in which it was believed that in the era of companions, majority have their own codexs with different readings and words. Furthermore, he complied "Muqaddimatan fī ulūm l Qur′ān" on the basis of two old manuscripts: "Muqaddimah kitāb  ̔l Mabānī" and "Muqaddimah ib. Attiah". He means that differences in Qur‚ānic readings are not right so that for the Muslims to get the original Text is not only difficult but also impossible. According to his perception, he made Sūrah al-Fatiah a basic point for his research, because this surah is the preface of Qur‚ān and this surah is also short in words and ideality too for the opponents and non believers. Arthur Jeffery made doubt and suspicion to present the differences in readings of Sūrah al-Fatiah. In this article, the study will be presented regarding  the differences in readings of Sūrah al-Fatiah with the critical review of  Arthure Jeffery's thoughts.
