Abstract

Since 1940, when movement for an independent state got accelerated, the core objective of an Islamic state is to obtain a territory where Muslims could live in accordance with the ijunctions of Islam. Right after the creation of Pakistan, the efforts had begun bypassing “Objectives Resuotion” in 1949. Thereafter, all constitutions of 1956, 1962 and that of 1973 reflected this core objective by maintaining Islamic identity. For Islamizing laws in Pakistan, many institutions and figures have been contributing. One of such figures is Pir Karam Shah al-Azhari who had served as judge Federal Shariat Court in 1981 and then in Shariat Appellate Bench of Shpreme Court of Pakistan till his death. The present work is analytical study of the judgements he issued through his tenure. However, this needs to be preceeded by highlighting the role of ‘Ulamā’.
