..Religious Coexistence in an Islamic State according to the Pact of Medina
Abstract
Religious coexistence is one of the core values that decision-makers must take into consideration in multi-ethnic and multi-religious society. Peaceful coexistence is one of the founding principles of an Islamic state. The study deals with the coexistence between members of multi-religious society in an Islamic state with reference to the Pact of Medina, which the Prophet (peace be on him) made between Muslims, Jews, and polytheists. This pact laid guiding principles for the establishing a state in Islam. This study highlights the importance of the principle of peaceful coexistence between different religious communities in the political system in Islam and its significance for the progress and stability of society.
