Child-Rearing in the Light of the Sīrah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)

الملخص

This study investigates child upbringing in the light of the Prophetic biography, emphasising the pedagogical model of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the most comprehensive framework for nurturing children physically, intellectually, morally, and spiritually. Inspired by Sīrah and Sunnah literature, the research adopts an analytical method to examine selected incidents from the Prophet’s interactions with children, extracting underlying wisdom and pedagogical values. The findings highlight the Prophet’s emphasis on early preparation for parenting, including the choice of a righteous mother, the significance of good naming, instilling love, mercy, and affection, and the encouragement of playful interaction with the children as a natural developmental need. Moreover, the study demonstrates how the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) approach combined affection with discipline, guided with compassion, and taught with role modelling, thereby shaping children into balanced individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to their society. The research concludes that the Prophetic model of child upbringing offers a holistic paradigm that surpasses modern educational systems by integrating material and spiritual security, preparing children to become strong, ethical, and socially responsible individuals.
