الملخص

Religious dialogue and extremism are considered important and burning issues in the contemporary world. In present era, the entire world is facing problems of terrorism and extremism. This research paper describes the concepts, foundations, and misunderstanding related to these issues as well as discusses the basic root causes of mishandling of these matters in modern world. Dialogue is an important intellectual source to resolve differences between people and develop understanding among followers of different religions. Islam urges and promotes a peaceful environment based on dialogue and mutual understanding. In the present world, people are in desperate need to promote religious dialogue and support interfaith harmony. The holy Quran promotes dialogue-based environment and urges to know and understand opinions of others particularly in religious matters. Islam does not allow to kill, harass or torture people because of their faith and religious affiliation. It is one of the basic objectives of Islamic law to protect the life and property of people whether they are Muslim or non-Muslim citizens of the state. Unfortunately, in the present world terrorism and violence have been associated with Islam which is totally against the ground realities. This research paper deals with this important issue in the light of the Quran and sunnah. I have attempted to prove that Islam is a religion of tolerance, peace and brotherhood.
