Abstract

This study examines the role of Sīrat al-Nabī Muhammad (peace be upon him) in affirming women’s rights to ownership and acknowledging their financial rights within society. It underscores the necessity of examining the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) life as a source of guidance for addressing contemporary challenges faced by Muslims, particularly those concerning women’s status and rights. The research engages with legal, social, economic, and political dimensions, seeking to counter the false claims that Islam restricts women’s autonomy. Centring on the concept of women’s property rights and financial agency, the paper explores practical precedents from the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) Sīrah to present an Islamic framework that is distinct from both secular feminist discourses and culturally entrenched traditions. Employing a descriptive and analytical methodology, the study draws upon classical and modern works on the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) life to demonstrate how his practice safeguarded women’s financial rights, granting them the freedom to own, manage, and dispose of their properties without guardianship. By highlighting these historical and normative foundations, the research aims to correct misconceptions arising from cultural distortions and to provide a clearer understanding of Islam’s authentic stance on women’s financial independence. The study concludes with recommendations to address ongoing challenges such as discrimination, lack of awareness, and the persistence of conflicting customs, thereby ensuring the effective protection and implementation of women’s financial rights in modern Muslim societies.
