Abstract

The science of the modes of recitation of the Quran is majestic and prestigious due to its deep impact on the derivation of legal rules and injunctions of Islamic law. Muslim scholars consider it one of the most important area of study in the field of sciences of the Quran. Moreover, the meaning and concept of a Quranic verse may vary with difference in the mode of recitation. Therefore, Muslim scholars have concentrated on this field from the very beginning. This is a significant topic of Quranic studies. Modes of recitations of the Quran is taught in religious institutions as an academic discipline. This research paper focuses on the study of these modes with special reference to the verbs and their semantic effects. An attempt has been made to find the causes of differences between verbs. Furthermore, it provides brief biographical notes on some prominent reciters and experts of the modes of recitation of the holy Quran. This study is based on the deductive method of research. The basic question of this research is whether the shift of Quranic verses in verbs from third person to second or first person and vice versa has any interpretative significance and whether this affects the derivation of legal injunctions and meaning of verses.
