The Rhetorical Styles in the Prophetic Hadiths: Sahih Muslim as a Model
Abstract
The Prophetic Hadiths encompass various rhetorical styles and elements of eloquence and linguistic beauty, as they are also divinely inspired. Sahih Muslim by Imam Muslim ibn Al-Hajjaj Al-Qushayri is one of the most authoritative collections of Prophetic traditions, held in high regard by scholars, particularly in the Maghreb, even above Sahih Al-Bukhari in some cases. This research explores the rhetorical styles employed in the Hadiths found in Sahih Muslim, focusing on forms of command, prohibition, supplication, interrogation, and address. The study also highlights Imam Muslim’s scholarly expertise in Hadith, his meticulous selection of reliable narrators, and his significant contribution to the preservation and transmission of the Sunnah. The research underscores the importance of studying Sahih Muslim and understanding Imam Muslim’s methodology and criteria in compiling his authentic collection of Hadiths.
