Abstract

The article explains the ḥadīth, which includes the dialogue between the companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) Laqīṭ b. Ṣabrah and the Prophet (peace be upon him). This ḥadīth is considered to be very important regarding da‘wah (Islamic preaching) and many rulings regarding da‘wah can be deduced from it. Therefore, I have reviewed Laqīṭ b. Ṣabrah’s detailed conversation with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and emphasized its importance for da‘wah. I also highlighted the concept of the da‘wah and described the characteristics of a preacher (dā‘ī) and the skills required for him because da‘wah is a very sensitive and important responsibility. The sharī‘ah has laid down special conditions for the people involved in preaching so that it should not be adversely affected by incompetent and inexperienced people. In the same way, it is important to keep in mind the conditions of those who are being invited. The article contains the sharī‘ah conditions for those who are being invited. There is an urgent need for dialogue and reconciliation because the problems cannot be solved by wars nor can anyone be persuaded by force and power. Therefore, the principles outlined by Islam should be put into practice and Islamic preaching should be done in the light of these universal principles.
