Abstract

This article investigates the contentious issue of Ḥadīth  transmission by analyzing two opposing scholarly perspectives on "non-Verbatim”. The first perspective argues that the entirety of Ḥadīth literature was transmitted by meaning, thereby rendering the Sunnah redundant for legal derivation. In contrast, the second perspective advocates for the strict literal transmission of Ḥadīth, viewing "non-verbatim narration" as an exception, permissible only for minor word changes. Utilizing analytical, critical, and comparative methodologies, this study examines these viewpoints through rigorous textual and doctrinal analysis. By critically assessing the arguments surrounding the potential dismissal of the Sunnah based on "non-verbatim" the article seeks to elucidate the role of Ḥadīth as a primary source of Islamic law, particularly in its relationship to the Quran and legal rulings.
