Religious Symbols in Iqbal’s Poetry with Special Reference to His Asrar-o Rumuz

Abstract

This article aims to describe religious symbols and signs in the poetry of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, with special reference to his famous Persian collection Asrar-o Rumuz. Iqbal is a poet of high stature. His poetry aims to revive man and urges him to work hard and achieve the highest objectives of humanity. His poetic work has been translated into many languages. Iqbal frequently uses symbols and signs in his poetry to convey his message forcefully. This is evident from the title of his collection Asrar-o Rumuz (secrets and symbols). The article focuses on this collection and aims to interpret religious symbols that Iqbal employed in it, referring to their linguistic and technical meanings.
